Scaling
Scaling is formed as a result of calcium and magnesium ion deposits on the units of a cooling system. This negatively influences heat transport leading to other complications within the system. A bio film can also be formed in the cooling water system, consequentially leading to clogging of microorganisms which increases scaling. Ozone treatment limits scaling. Ozone is a disinfectant that decomposes bio films and decreases chances of scale formation
Corrosion
Corrosion is mainly caused by microorganisms, which enhance corrosion forming conditions. A residual ozone concentration of 0.1 to 0.2 ppm is in most cases very effective in keeping the cooling tower and the cooling circuit clean by forming a corrosion preventing film on metals. Ozone reduces the corrosion rate of metals, including copper heat exchangers
